More than three million people are victimized by workplace violence each year, resulting in terrible consequences: human suffering, loss of life, expensive lawsuits, property damage, and the often immeasurable costs of workforce whose morale is diminished through fear.

Although workplace violence may appear to be random, many incidents can be anticipated and avoided. Employers have both a legal duty and a moral obligation to provide a safe workplace. To prevent loss of life and injuries and to limit financial losses and potential liability, your property should have policies and procedures in

place to prevent violence from occurring. These policies and procedures should be designed to help you identify the potential for violence, prevent the occurrence of violence, and respond to violence that occurs when prevention fails.
